Resolution Urging Negotiation of a Bilateral Free Trade Agreement Between the United States and the United Kingdom

Whereas, the United Kingdom separated from the European Union on January 31, 2020, thus gaining the right to determine its own trade policies; and

Whereas, the United States and the United Kingdom have strong historic, cultural, and economic bonds; and

Whereas, the United States and the United Kingdom have an important trading relationship, with U.S. exports of goods and services to the U.K in 2018 of $140.4 billion, and imports of $121.5 billion; and

Whereas, it is in the interests of both nations to strengthen the special relationship that binds our two democracies; now

Therefore be it resolved, that the commonwealth/state of [insert state] urges the president of the United States to press forward expeditiously with the recently launched negotiations with the United Kingdom with the objective of establishing a free-trade agreement.
