ALEC Resolution Text

WHEREAS, the Founding Fathers of our nation understood that the rights to own property is the cornerstone of liberty and freedom and is essential to the concept of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness;

WHEREAS, the private ownership of property is an essential element of free, independent and sovereign society;

WHEREAS, the private ownership of property guarantees individual liberty and freedom;

WHEREAS, the private ownership of property includes, but is not limited to, land, real, tangible, intangible, personal and corporate possessions and intellectual properties;

WHEREAS, the right to private ownership of property is being destroyed, often without forewarning or compensation, by statutes, regulations, executive orders and judicial fiat, et al.; now

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that {insert state} is opposed to any governmental attempt at whatever level and by whatever means to confiscate, reduce the value of, or restrict the uses of private property unless to abate a public nuisance affecting the public health and safety; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that {insert state} supports the Constitution of the United States and safeguards contained therein, as vital to the sovereignty of these United States and to individual liberty and freedom; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be transmitted to the President of the United States, the Speaker of the House, the President Pro Tempore of the Senate and the every member of this state’s Congressional Delegation.
